Leopold Ferdinand Karl Wilhelm von Woelckern (born October 31, 1829 in Ulm , † March 21, 1905 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg general of the infantry .

Life

origin

He came from a patrician family in Nuremberg and was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Karl von Woelckern (1794–1867) from Württemberg . His grandfather was a city councilor in Ulm. One of his brothers was Martin Carl Wilhelm von Wölckern .

Military career

Woelckern graduated from high school in Stuttgart and from September 30, 1845 attended the officer training institute in Ludwigsburg . On October 6, 1848 he was employed as a lieutenant with a patent from May 9, 1848 in the 6th Infantry Regiment of the Württemberg Army . With his promotion to first lieutenant on January 30, 1854, he was transferred to the 3rd Infantry Regiment , in which Woelckern acted as a battalion adjutant from September 25, 1855 to May 16, 1858. Subsequently transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment , he was commanded as an adjutant to the 3rd Infantry Brigade on November 15, 1858 . As a captain and company commander in the 6th Infantry Regiment, Woelckern returned to military service on January 4, 1864 and took part with his association in the battle near Tauberbischofsheim in 1866 during the war against Prussia . At the beginning of the war against France he was promoted to major in 1870 and transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander. Woelckern fought at Wörth and Sedan as well as in the enclosure and siege of Paris . For his achievements he was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Military Merit.

After the war Woelckern advanced to lieutenant colonel and was appointed commander of the 7th Infantry Regiment on March 4, 1876 . In this capacity, he was promoted to colonel on June 17, 1878 . Under position à la suite of his regiment, Woelckern was commissioned on August 4, 1883 with the command of the 54th Infantry Brigade in Ulm. On 17 December 1883 he was appointed commander of this large association appointed and on May 21, 1884 Patent of April 15, 1884 to Major General conveyed. As such he was from September 23, 1887 to August 17, 1888 commander of the 52nd Infantry Brigade in Ludwigsburg. (Royal Württemberg) Army Corps are enforced. Woelckern was then commissioned on October 26, 1890 with the leadership and on June 29, 1891 was finally appointed the commanding general of this corps . On February 24, 1892 he was promoted to General of the Infantry and King Wilhelm II presented him in recognition of his services on December 2, 1893 à la suite of the infantry regiment "Kaiser Friedrich, King of Prussia" (7th Württembergisches) No. 125.
