Wolf von Beneckendorff
Wolfram von Beneckendorff and von Hindenburg (born March 1, 1891 in Stralsund , † January 27, 1960 in Berlin ) was a German actor.
Life
He came from the noble family von Beneckendorff and von Hindenburg, which were widespread in northeastern Germany . After the death of his parents , Paul von Beneckendorff and von Hindenburg adopted him . Wolf became an actor and made his debut in 1909. As an artist, Wolf renounced the second part of his adoptive name and called himself Wolf von Beneckendorff , sometimes Wolf Beneckendorff .
Wolf perfected himself by studying at the drama school of the German Theater in Berlin and was a well-known performer on Berlin stages in the 1920s , but also played in Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Düsseldorf. There, as in some films, predestined by origin, upbringing and appearance, he mainly portrayed the type of aristocrat . During the final phase of the Second World War , he made a long guest appearance in Switzerland.
When he returned to Berlin, he went to the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm , where Bertolt Brecht took him on to the Berliner Ensemble . The stage actor Beneckendorff also became known to the cinema audience through cinematic productions such as the play Mother Courage and Her Children . In addition, Beneckendorff took part in radio play productions and since 1953 has appeared mostly in the field of comical old people or aristocrats in supporting roles in numerous DEFA films and in productions on GDR television .
With the intention of robbing him, four 19 to 22-year-old men beat Wolf von Beneckendorff on January 27, 1960 in his apartment in Berlin-Adlershof . Beneckendorff suffocated on his broken denture. The perpetrators were sentenced on April 28, 1960 to 13 years in prison each.
Beneckendorff was buried in the cemetery of the Dorotheenstadt and Friedrichswerder communities in Berlin.
