Wolfgang Sadowski

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Sadowski (born January 16, 1937 in Berlin ) is a German weightlifter and former Berlin local politician ( CDU ; non-attached from 2000 ). At the age of 81, he became the world record holder in snatch (60 kg) and push (72 kg) in autumn 2017.

Life

After graduating from school in 1955, Wolfgang Sadowski learned to be a carpenter and later became a civil servant librarian at the Higher Administrative Court .

Local politics

Sadowski had been active in local politics for the CDU-Wilmersdorf since 1979, where he last sat as a district councilor for Berlin-Wilmersdorf in the BVV building committee. Together with the vice-parliamentary leader Anke Soltkahn , he was considered an opponent of Alexander Straßmeir in the parliamentary group . As the parliamentary group's spokesman for building policy, Sadowski often had content-related differences of opinion with Straßmeir. For years he was chairman of the building committee.

Sadowski was a party judge in the Wilmersdorfer CDU for over 14 years under the district chairman Wruck and his deputy Jürgen Adler . The party-internal conservative CDU members expressed the suspicion that the candidacy of Monika Grütters was supported by the governing mayor Diepgen and the parliamentary group leader Klaus Landwosky. The district councilor Anke Soltkahn , who was proposed by Sadowski at the district party conference , stood up against Monika Grütters . He was then in the party court proceedings M. Grütters ./. A. Soltkahn rejected as a biased party judge.

In October 2000, he himself resigned from the party and parliamentary group after power struggles, as a result of which the CDU only had 33 of the 69 seats in the joint BVV. Among other things, Sadowski was upset that Joachim Krüger had also been elected vice chairman of the parliamentary group, who had not participated in a collection for a federal flag and a Berlin flag for the parliamentary group room. The chairman of the CDU district association Wilmersdorf, Ingo Schmitt , insinuated that Sadowski merely wanted to torpedo the re-election of Alexander Straßmeir and had even offered the SPD two votes. Rex and Sadowski, both from the right wing of the party, followed their friend, Ekkehard Wruck , who had also left the CDU in 1999 after permanent disputes with the liberal wing of the party and sat in the Berlin House of Representatives without a party until the 2001 parliamentary election . After the loss of the majority, some CDU functionaries preferred closer cooperation with the Greens and described Sadowski as "polarizing". After his resignation, Sadowski remained a non-attached member of the district assembly until the premature dissolution of the House of Representatives in 2001, which also ended the BVV legislative period prematurely.

Even today, the former building politician Sadowski is occasionally politically active.

In his political work as well as in his sports career, his married couple Henriette Sadowski was not only a help, but also a great supporter of all his goals. In 2019, the couple have been a couple for 63 years.

Sports

He is a member of the Heros Berlin Athletics Club (AC Heros Berlin) and has won several titles, his most important in the senior sector. Since he was a teenager, he took part in competitions and was multiple youth and junior champion. In 1955 he won the last overall Berlin championships and then gave up competitive sport because of the extensive doping in this area.

When he retired, he returned to his sport and won several senior championship and Olympic victories. In order to be able to surpass the world record in his age and weight class, which was previously 58 kg in tearing and 71 kg in pushing, he had an artificial titanium hip joint implanted in the Evangelical Forest Hospital in Spandau in September 2016 due to a diagnosed osteoarthritis . In March 2017 he was again German champion in his age and weight class. At the European Seniors Championships 2017 in Sweden, he was able to beat the previous record in his age and weight class in pushing with the 72 kg on the barbell by one kilogram and in snatching with 60 kg by two kilograms.

All German competitive high-performance athletes from the age of 35 (over 400 active participants) in the weight class from 56 kg to 105 kg are evaluated according to the Sinclair points ranking list (SMM). Here, too, Sadowski took high places a few times:

- In 2009 he received second place in the men's ranking with 432.1699 SMM points.

- In 2011 he was ranked first in the men's ranking with 434.3322 SMM points.

- In 2012, with 427.1917 SMM points, he again received second place in the men's ranking.

During the German Masters in 2012, Sadowski broke 3 German records. In addition, these 3 records are 4 kg above the world record for pushing and dueling. However, no world records are recognized at German championships.

The indie film The strongest man of Berlin portrays the athlete.
