Wulf-Dietrich von Lucius (born November 29, 1938 in Jena ) is a German publisher , publicist and bibliophile .

Life

Von Lucius was born in Jena in 1938. Due to the temporary arrest of his mother Annelise von Lucius, head of Gustav Fischer Verlag , by the GDR authorities in 1953 , the family fled to the Federal Republic via Berlin. After graduating from high school in 1958, he completed a traineeship at the Ensslin & Laiblin printing company at the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart . He then did military service in the Bundeswehr and achieved the rank of first lieutenant in the reserve.

From 1960 to 1965 he studied economics ( diploma ) at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Freie Universität Berlin and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and was admitted to the law and political science faculty of the University of Freiburg in 1967 with the dissertation Der Stand der Interest theory, especially with regard to econometric approaches for the empirical review of the Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

After completing his studies, he initially completed a traineeship. From 1969 he worked at Gustav Fischer Verlag in Stuttgart , where he was the fourth generation managing partner from 1972 to 1996. In 1971 he co-founded the academic paperback series Uni-Taschenbücher (UTB). In 1996 he was the new founder of the Stuttgart specialist publisher Lucius & Lucius , which was expanded by taking over parts of the program (especially magazines) from other publishers. The publisher focuses on the fields of economics and sociology.

He was u. a. Chairman of the supervisory board of Carl Hanser Verlag (1989–2013), member of the board of the Deutsche Schillergesellschaft (1989–2009). He is a board member of the German National Library (DNB), board member of the Book Art Foundation (chairman 1982–1989) and a member of the Wüstenrot Foundation (chairman 2009–2014). Since 2009 he has been chairman of the Maximilian Society for Old and New Book Art. Since 1981 member of the historical commission of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels . From 1991 to 1996 he was its chairman. Within the Börsenverein he was involved a. a. as chairman of the publishers' committee, 9 years as board member (deputy chairman) and in the copyright and publishing law committee (14 years as chairman). Today he is an honorary member.

For copyright he was also active in international publishers' associations as chairman of various committees.

Lucius has been honorary professor for publishing at the University of Hohenheim since 2007 .

He has been married since 1967 and has three children.
