Michael Büskens (born March 19, 1968 in Düsseldorf) is a former German football player and current manager.
Büskens began his career with hometown Alemannia Düsseldorf, before he moved to city giants Fortuna. After five years, he went on to represent VfL Benrath, then in 1987 rejoined Fortuna, this time as member of the professional squad.
In 1992-93, Büskens moved to FC Schalke 04, and lived there the most successful years of his football career. He was part of the UEFA Cup winning squad winners squad and added the German Cups in 2001 and 2002.
In January 2000, he played half a year for MSV Duisburg, but returned to Schalke after Duisburg’s poor season. From 2000-03 he would appear sparingly for the side, and competed in 2003-04, his last as a player, with the second squad, where he was also assistant manager. In 2005, he succeeded Gerhard Kleppinger as main coach.
On 13th April 2008, Büskens was appointed manager of Schalke's first team along with another former Schalke player, Youri Mulder, succeeding Mirko Slomka, after a 5:1 away loss to Werder Bremen, as the team was battling for a UEFA Champions League position (eventually reaching third). He remained in charge until the end of the season, and was replaced by Dutchman Fred Rutten on July.
