İbrahim Köseoğlu (born January 16, 1968 in Bulgaria ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Because of his many years of work for Zeytinburnuspor and Bursaspor , he is associated with these clubs.

Player career

society

Köseoğlu was born in 1968 to Bulgaria-Turks in Bulgaria . He began his professional football career in 1988 with the then Istanbul second division club Zeytinburnuspor . In the 1988/89 season he won the second division championship with his team and rose for the first time in the club's history to the top Turkish league (then known as the 1st league ). After two first division years, the club rose again in the second league in the summer of 1991 . In the first second division season after relegation they reached the end of the season, the runner-up in Group A and thus missed promotion according to the rules at that time. The following season 1992/93 they became runner-up again and rose, due to the changed rules of play, after two years of abstinence back to the top Turkish league.

After the rise, Köseoğlu was found by the coaching staff to be insufficient for the 1st Lig and put on the list of players who should be loaned. So he spent the 1993/94 season at the second division PTT . At this club he played consistently as a regular player and drew attention to himself with ten goals in 21 league matches. However, PTT missed relegation and rose to the third highest Turkish league (then known as the 3rd Lig ).

Due to his good performance at PTT, he fell to several first division clubs, u. a. Bursaspor , on. In the summer of 1994, his club received several inquiries, and an agreement was reached with Bursaspor. At his new club he was used by coach Nevzat Güzelırmak only on the 4th day of the first time. After this encounter of the 4th matchday against Kayserispor Güzelırmak was replaced by Nejat Biyediç . Under this new coach, Köseoğlu immediately conquered a regular place and, apart from injuries-related failures, played continuously. In the 1994/95 season they reached 6th place in the table and qualified for the next season for the UEFA Intertoto Cup . In the pre-season UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995 , they finished the group stage confidently as first in Group 10. In the last sixteen they met the Greek representative OFI Crete and defeated them 2-1. In the quarter-finals they met the then Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC . The match played in front of a home crowd became one of the most thrilling and legendary matches in the club's history. In the game Karlsruhe took the lead with a goal from Thomas Häßler in the 26th minute. The regular playing time ended 2-2. Bursaspor achieved a 3-2 lead in stoppage time with a goal from Ercüment Şahin . Karlsruhe equalized five minutes before the end of the game. The game decided Karlsruhe after penalties 9: 8 for themselves. Köseoğlu was used in all of these games. In his second season at Bursaspor he was also noticed by the then Turkish national coach Fatih Terim and he completed his first international match.

For the season 1996/97 , the club's board hired the British Gordon Milne as a coach. Under this coach, Köseoğlu was hardly considered and only played in a single league game until the winter break. During the winter break, Milne put Köseoğlu on the list of players with whom he no longer planned for the rest of the season. The club's management suggested Köseoğlu to switch to another club as a loan player. Köseoğlu agreed and left the club in late November 1996 in the direction of league rivals Çanakkale Dardanelspor . At this club Köseoğlu got a regular place and met twice in 15 league encounters. At the end of the season he then moved to Dardanelspor and established himself here as a regular player.

In the summer of 1998 he moved within the league to promoted Adanaspor . In his first season Köseoğlu only spent the first half of the season at Adanaspor and the second half of the season as a loan player at the second division club Kayserispor . In the second season he stayed with Adanaspor throughout, but had no regular place.

For the season 2000/01 he left Adanaspor and moved to the second division Sakaryaspor . Here he reached the play-off final of the TFF 1. Lig at the end of the season and missed promotion to the Süper Lig by penalty shoot-out against Malatyaspor .

After a year at Sakaryaspor, he left the club and moved to the third division Eskişehirspor . He then played for his old club Zeytinburnuspor . This club now played in the TFF 3rd Lig , the fourth highest Turkish league. After a year he left this club and moved within the league to Kasımpaşa Istanbul . This club reached the championship of the TFF 3rd Lig in the 2004/05 season and rose to the TFF 2nd Lig . Following this success, Köseoğlu ended his active professional football career.

National team

For the upcoming friendly game against the Azerbaijani national team on April 9, 1996 , the then Turkish national coach Fatih Terim invited several young players into the squad of the Turkish national team for test purposes . In addition to such players as Ufuk Süer , Selahattin Özbir , Vedat İnceefe , Vedat Vatansever and Hakan Şimşek , Köseoğlu was also one of the newly nominated players. In this game he played from the start and completed his first and only international match.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his career, he took over as a player at his last club, Kasımpaşa Istanbul , as a youth coach. In February 2007 he took on the same position at Balıkesirspor . Abril early 2008, he first worked as head coach and coached the fourth division Kütahyaspor .
