(5107) Laurenbacall is a main outer belt asteroid discovered on February 24, 1987 by the Belgian astronomer Henri Debehogne at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809). The asteroid had been sighted before, for example in 1976 (under the provisional designation 1976 GE 1 ) and on November 10, 1985 (1985 VY 2 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .
In a publication from 1995 (et al.), The Italian astronomer Vincenzo Zappalà defines the asteroid belonging to the Veritas family, a group of asteroids named after (490) Veritas and probably before 8.3 (± 0.5) Formed millions of years ago when an asteroid 150 km in diameter broke apart.
According to the SMASS classification (Small Main-Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey) , a spectroscopic study by Gianluca Masi , Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel at (5107) Laurenbacall assumed a dark surface, so it could, roughly speaking, be trade a C asteroid .
The rotation period of (5107) Laurenbacall was published in 2015 by Adam Waszczak, Chan-Kao Chang, Eran Ofek et al. examined. However, the light curve was not sufficient for a determination.
(5107) Laurenbacall was named on October 8, 2014 after the American actress Lauren Bacall (1924-2014; real name Betty Joan Perske ). Highlighted in the dedication is her acting in the film from the year 1944 Have and Have Not (To Have and Have Not) at the side of her later husband Humphrey Bogart .
