31st Cavalry Brigade (German Empire)
The 31st Cavalry Brigade was a large unit of the Prussian Army .
history
In the course of the formation of the XV. Army Corps , the brigade was established by ordinance of the War Ministry on March 20, 1871. The command was in Strasbourg , from 1912 in Saarbrücken . The brigade belonged to the 31st Division and the 3rd Silesian Dragoon Regiment No. 15 and the Schleswig-Holstein Uhlan Regiment No. 15 were subordinate to it. From spring 1878 to 1890 the Rhenish Uhlan Regiment No. 7 belonged to the Brigade Association and the Bavarian 5th Chevaulegers Regiment "Prince Otto" was attached to the brigade. In 1896 the subordination changed. The Schleswig-Holstein Uhlan Regiment No. 15 switched to the 30th Cavalry Brigade and the 2nd Rhenish Hussar Regiment No. 9 came from the 16th Cavalry Brigade .
On October 1, 1912, changes took place with the expansion of the army. Through the formation of the XXI. Army Corps , the 31st Division with the 31st Cavalry Brigade was subordinated to the General Command in Saarbrücken. The 3rd Silesian Dragoon Regiment No. 15 and the 2nd Rhenish Hussar Regiment No. 9 were replaced by the Uhlan Regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden" (Rhenish) No. 7 and the Westphalian Dragoon Regiment No. 7 .
When the First World War broke out , the brigade was disbanded. The Uhlan regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden" (Rheinisches) No. 7 became divisional cavalry of the 31st Infantry Division, the Dragoon Regiment "General Field Marshal Prince Leopold of Bavaria" (Westphalian) No. 7 of the 42nd Infantry Division .
