Bodo Ludwig Leopold von Suckow (born December 5, 1830 in Grabow , † December 26, 1904 at Königsbrück Palace ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Mecklenburg Landdrost in Grabow Viktor August Gottfried von Suckow (1786-1852) and his wife Magdalene Sophie Karoline, née Seeler (1793-1848).

Military career

Suckow first visited the military training school in Schwerin and then joined on 1 May 1848 as Portepeefähnrich in the Dragoon Regiment of the Mecklenburg army. There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in June 1848 and took part in the battles at Wald-Michelbach , Ladenburg and Großsachsen with his regiment in the course of the suppression of the Baden Revolution . As prime lieutenant , Suckow was commanded to the riding school twice for several months in 1855/56. With his promotion to Rittmeister Suckow was active as squadron chief and rose on June 30, 1864 as a major to the regular staff officer . In this position he took part in the campaign in southern Germany in 1866 during the German War .

On January 22, 1868 Suckow was taken over into the Association of the Prussian Army and aggregated to the 2nd Guard Dragoon Regiment . After his promotion to lieutenant colonel, he was commissioned on April 25, 1868 with the functions of the regular staff officer and on November 18, 1868, Suckow was appointed commander of the Thuringian Hussar Regiment No. 12 . He led his regiment in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battles near Beaumont , Sedan , Pierrefitte and Stains and the siege of Paris . For his achievements Suckow received the Iron Cross II. Class and was promoted to colonel on January 18, 1871 on the occasion of the imperial proclamation .

In position à la suite of his regiment, Suckow was appointed commander of the 31st Cavalry Brigade in Strasbourg on May 28, 1874 . In this capacity he received the Red Eagle Order II. Class in September 1876 and three years later the Crown Order II. Class with a star. With the character of lieutenant general and the statutory pension , Suckow was put up for disposition on June 12, 1880 .

family

Suckow had married Karoline Marie Freiin von Lützow (1843-1914), daughter of the Dutch major general Heinrich von Lützow (1807-1879) in Bankwitz on June 14, 1865 . The daughter Karoline (* 1866) and son Rudolf (* 1867) emerged from the marriage.
