The 4.2 cm light PaK 41 ( lePaK 41 for short ) was an anti-tank gun of the Wehrmacht in World War II .

history

The 4.2 cm lePak 41 introduced in 1941 was the second anti-tank weapon with a conical barrel to be handed over to the army after the 2.8 cm heavy anti-tank rifle 41 . She used the slightly modified mount of the 3.7 cm PaK 36 .

For the lePaK 41 there were HE shells and for anti-tank fighting the tank shell 41 with a tungsten core. With a core of 28 mm caliber, 83 mm of steel could be penetrated at a distance of 250 meters with a 60 ° inclined armor plate (deviation 30 ° from the vertical). With armor plate set up perpendicular to the flight path, it was 105 mm at the same distance. At 1000 meters, the corresponding values were 53 mm and 60 mm, respectively. These values were determined by the Heeres-Waffenprüfamt in accordance with the German standards of the time and are not exactly comparable with foreign data on penetration performance.

Since tungsten was required to manufacture tank grenade 41 , which was no longer available in sufficient quantities, and because manganese was required for an alloy in the mount , production was stopped in May 1942. By then, 136 guns had been delivered to the army, of which 41 were still available in November 1944.
