The Achatzberger Sattel, which gives the village its name, is just over 300  m above sea level. A. Geologically, this is already part of the Klamer Basin , as the rocky subsoil can only be found deep below the tertiary surface layer of Schlier , Melker (Linzer) sand and weathered clay .

The village is located about one kilometer southeast of the center of Klam, next to the border with the neighboring municipality of Saxen (locality Letten ) and is divided into two parts by the Münzbacher Straße (L 1423) leading from Saxen via Klam to Münzbach . The eastern part of the village is cut through by the state road (L 1431) that branches off in the village in a north-easterly direction to Grein. To the west of the village is a wooded elevation made of granite rock , which is divided from north to south by the Klambach , which has created the Klamschlucht valley . At an altitude of 355  m above sea level. A. is noted a castle stable . To the north and northeast of the village are the localities of Ober- and Unterhörnbach , which belong to Klam .

Although the center of Klam with the church is a little closer than the center of Saxen with the church, the population of Achatzberg belongs to the parish of Saxen . Achatzberg, on the other hand, was assigned to the Klam school district.

From a geological and geomorphological point of view, as well as from the point of view of the use of space, Achatzberg is entirely part of the Upper Austrian spatial units Southern Mühlviertel peripheral locations .
