The Acocro District is located in the Huamanga Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on November 23, 1964. The district has an area of ​​386 km². The 2017 census counted 7,403 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6296, in 2007 it was 8953. The district administration is located in the 3247  m high village of Acocro with 491 inhabitants (as of 2017). Acocro is located 21 km east-southeast of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).

Geographical location

The Acocro District is located in the east of the Huamanga Province. It is located in the Andean highlands on the western flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Yucay drains the area in a north-westerly direction.

The Acocro district borders in the southwest on the Chiara district , in the northwest on the Tambillo district , in the north on the Acos Vinchos district , in the extreme northeast on the San Miguel and Chilcas districts , in the northeast on the Luis Carranza district , in the northeast on the district Ocros and in the extreme south to the district of Vischongo .
