Adolf Hans Heinrich von Wittich (born August 28, 1836 in Schönlanke ; † February 23, 1906 in Würzburg ) was a Prussian colonel general with the rank of field marshal .

Life

origin

He was the son of the royal Prussian court martial secretary Wilhelm von Wittich (1798–1855) and Christine Henriette Mildebradt (1811–1888).

Military career

Wittich was transferred to the 39th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on May 1, 1855 from the Cadet Corps as a Second Lieutenant . From 1858 he worked as an educator at the Cadet House in Berlin, was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in December 1860 and transferred to the Cadet Corps the following year. On 6 February 1866 was promoted to captain in the general staff added the army, Wittich took part in the German war part. He then worked as a teacher and examiner at the War Academy . From February 16, 1869 to March 9, 1870 Wittich served as company commander in Fusilier Regiment No. 39 and was then transferred back to the General Staff. On July 20, 1870, he was transferred to the General Staff of the IV Army Corps while being promoted to major . In this position he took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and received both classes of the Iron Cross .

Relocated to the General Staff in 1873 , Wittich worked as a teacher at the War Academy for the next two years. In 1877 he was employed as Chief of Staff of the IV Army Corps in Magdeburg . In 1878 he became a colonel and department head in the War Ministry . In 1885 he became major general and commander of the 12th Infantry Brigade in Brandenburg .

In 1888 Wittich became adjutant general of Kaiser Wilhelm II , lieutenant general and head of the headquarters . From 1892 to 1904 he was Commanding General of the XI. Army Corps in Kassel . Finally, on April 5, 1904, Wittich was put up for disposition with the statutory pension with the approval of his resignation request and leaving his relationship as adjutant general . At the same time it was decreed that he should continue to be included in the seniority list of the generals.

From 1904 to 1906 Wittich was a member of the Prussian mansion for life.

family

Wittich married Anna Schade on April 24, 1866 on Gut Rothenburg in the Sorau district (born February 3, 1842 in Sorau ; † December 27, 1932 in Dresden ). She was the daughter of the landowner Carl Rudolph Schade, landlord of Rothenburg, and Dorothea Ernestine Rüdiger. The sons Erich (1869–1927) and Curt (born November 20, 1873 in Berlin) emerged from the marriage.
