life and career

King grew up in the small town of Walnut . Her initial plans to pursue a career as a doctor were abandoned in the junior year of high school because her grades in math and science were personally inadequate for her. After she started her acting career at a young age and gained some experience in high school, she moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara , where she was also employed as an actress. Her acting teachers included Irwin Appel , Risa Brainin and Tom Whitaker ; she completed her vocal training with Michael Morgan ; her teacher for movement sequences was James Donlon , who has worked on films such as Dolores (1995) and Love in the Times of Cholera (2007).

Under Appel she played at the university in the plays Angels in America by Tony Kushner and Pentecost by David Edgar ; she was also involved in the Shakespeare Santa Barbara play under Appel in The Comedy of Errors . She also starred in the drama Richard III at the Raven Playhouse in North Hollywood . with, where she was given the role of Lady Anne . With a " Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting", the young actress went to the Yale School of Drama in New Haven , Connecticut . There she was trained by a number of top-class university lecturers and used in a large number of pieces, some of which are internationally known; it was also increasingly used in comedic plays and cabaret. In addition to two appearances at the Yale Cabaret , founded in 1968 , she also had nine appearances on the main stage of the Yale School of Drama and two appearances at the Yale Repertory Theater . In 2010 she finished her education at Yale with a Master of Fine Arts .

It was around this time that her actual career as an actress in film and television began. After starring in the short film Gloria Mundi in 2008 , the young actress, who is a member of the Actors' Equity Association (AEA for short), appeared in two other short films. She was minute 20 in A Basketball Jones in the role of Sara Walker to see and was a celebrity in the 33-minute drama Eve of Sarah Lasley , a Yale graduate with degree in 2008. In addition, she was second in the this year Episode one of the first season of the CBS crime series Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York . In 2011 she took on a role in the movie Algebra in Love , starring among others with Greta Gerwig , Adam Brody , Analeigh Tipton , Carrie MacLemore , Megalyn Echikunwoke , Hugo Becker and Ryan Metcalf .

A year later she was seen alongside Wendell Pierce , EJ Bonilla or Emory Cohen in the film drama Four , which premiered on June 15, 2012 at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was officially released over a year later. In the independent film, she took on the role of Wendell Pierce's film daughter and received an “Audience Award” in the “Best Performance in a Narrative” category for the main cast of the film at the premiere. The film prevailed in its category against nine other films with, in some cases, top cast; further awards and nominations should follow. This year she also appeared in the nine-minute short film Love Synchs , as well as in an episode of Person of Interest . The real breakthrough came that same year when she starred as assistant doctor Cassandra Kopelson in the short-lived hospital series Emily Owens . The series ordered by The CW was discontinued after only one broadcast season with 13 episodes, after the audience numbers were already mediocre at the premiere and over time fewer and fewer viewers showed interest in the series. King played the antagonist of Emily Owens , played by Mamie Gummer , in all 13 episodes .

In 2013, the native Californian had further engagements in film and television; for example, she was seen in the pilot of the satirical magazine The Onion entitled Onion News Empire , which was first published on Amazon.com . She had another big role this year in the thriller 36 Saints , which came to US cinemas on September 6, 2013 and in which Donna McKechnie , Franky G , Jeffrey De Serrano , Britne Oldford and Chris Riggi appeared . She was also featured in an episode of Jon Bokenkamp's series The Blacklist . Two more projects with Aja Naomi King's participation are planned for 2014. In the television series The Black Box , which was filmed in December 2013 , she should be seen in a recurring role in three different episodes from January 2014. She also took on a role in The Reluctant Professor , a film by Marc Lawrence , starring among others with Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei , who is currently (as of January 1, 2014) in post-production . Hugh Grant plays a formerly successful screenwriter, who also won an Oscar for " Best Original Screenplay" in the late 1980s , but can no longer build on his old successes.

So far, only three German voice actors Kings are known. On the one hand Esra Vural , known as the festive voice of Ashley Tisdale and the voice of numerous other well-known actresses, lent her the German voice in Person of Interest ; on the other hand, she was dubbed in Emily Owens by Ilona Brokowski , who is also very active , and by Shandra Schadt in How to Get Away with Murder .
