Albrecht Ferdinand Christoph von Carlowitz (born July 26, 1837 in Petkus , † March 25, 1924 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Albrecht came from the Steina branch of the Carlowitz family . He was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant Colonel Albrecht von Carlowitz (1800–1865) and his wife Luise, née von Lochow (1814–1883).

Military career

Carlowitz attended the pedagogy of the monastery Our Dear Women in Magdeburg and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Städtische Realschule in Berlin. On March 1, 1856, as a three-year-old volunteer, he joined the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-November 1857 . From mid-June 1859 he was first to III. Battalion of the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment to Cottbus and three months later to the 2nd Battalion in Magdeburg. In the course of the army expansion, the 4th Guards Regiment on foot emerged from this association in early July 1860 . Carlowitz acted as adjutant of the 2nd battalion until the end of September 1862 and then rose to regimental adjutant. In the meantime promoted to prime lieutenant, he took part in the battle near Fredericia and the siege and assault on the Düppeler Schanzen in 1864 during the war against Denmark . He was seriously wounded by a gunshot in the right thigh on the Sonderburger bridgehead and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords, for his behavior . In the German War in 1866 he took part in the battle near Seybothenreuth and was briefly leader of the 11th, then the 1st company. After the peace treaty, he resigned as regimental adjutant in mid-September 1866 and was awarded the Crown Order IV Class with Swords.

From October 1868 to March 1869 Carlowitz was the leader of the fortress reserve department and then advanced to captain and company commander . At the beginning of the war against France he was seriously wounded again by a rifle shot in the right thigh in the Battle of Gravelotte . After his recovery he took part in the siege of Paris and the battles at Stains and Le Bourget . Awarded the Iron Cross and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross, Second Class, Carlowitz was promoted to Major from November 7, 1876 to March 20, 1878 as an adjutant at the General Command of the X Army Corps . He was then transferred to the 3rd Guards Regiment as a regular staff officer on foot . After commanding the 1st Battalion from mid-April 1880 to the end of January 1884, he again took on the role of the regular staff officer as a lieutenant colonel . With a position à la suite , Carlowitz was commissioned on May 14, 1887, initially with the command of the 2nd Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 47 in Posen, and on July 16, 1887 he was appointed as a colonel as regimental commander. This was followed by a position à la suite of his regiment on April 16, 1889 as a commander of Wesel . In this position, Carlowitz was given the character of Major General on March 24, 1890 and, on the occasion of the Order's festival in January 1895, the Red Eagle Order II. After his departure, Kaiser Wilhelm II paid tribute to him on September 13, 1911 by awarding him the star for the Order of the Crown, Second Class with Swords.

Carlowitz married Margarete von Obernitz (1843-1919) on October 20, 1866 in Eulenfeld near Eilenburg . The following children were born from the marriage:
