The Alex restaurants mbH & Co. KG , based in Wiesbaden currently operates 43 plants in 35 German cities, including 40 under the name Alex (proper spelling: ALEX ) and three brasseries . These are all-day catering concepts from the Mitchells & Butlers group .

development

In 1989 the company's first restaurant opened in Oldenburg. In the next ten years, 18 more companies were added across Germany. In 1999 the Alex chain was taken over by the British company Mitchells & Butlers. Since then, the Alex chain has been expanded with new openings in major German cities. In addition, the older companies were continuously redesigned from 2003 onwards. Currently (as of November 2018) there are 40 Alex businesses in 35 cities. In 2017, the adventure gastronomy chain generated 110.8 million euros and employed over 2000 people. Since 2004, Mitchells & Butlers has been in the top three of the top-selling leisure catering companies in the German system catering segment.

concept

Alex combines café , pub , bar , bistro and restaurant and offers drinks and food all day. The companies are preferably located in inner-city locations, pedestrian zones or shopping centers and have large outdoor restaurants. The concept for the interior design is divided into four areas: fireplace corner, café lounge, bar and bistro area. With well over 2 million morning meals sold (2017), Alex was able to consolidate its position as number one in the German breakfast market. In mid-October 2018, Alex all-day gastronomy opened its 40th business in Germany in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin.

There are also brasseries in Bielefeld , Münster and Saarbrücken . Their design is based on traditional French-style coffee houses. From a culinary point of view, the brasseries are inspired by French cuisine.

In Frankfurt is the Steakhouse concept in spring 2019 Miller & Carter , the gastronomic portfolio of Mitchells & Butlers extended to the German market to another brand.

Mitchells & Butlers has its own training academy near Limburg an der Lahn to promote the professional education and training of its employees.

  • In 2012, an independent study by ServiceValue gave Alex the customer rating of “very good” and thus the test winner in the “Food and Drinks” category in comparison with 23 national leisure catering companies.
  • Alex is one of the two "best employers within the leisure catering industry" and one of the "top employers in Germany" according to an independent study by Focus and Xing (2013).
  • “Most family-friendly company” within German leisure gastronomy (independent study by Goethe University Frankfurt, Welt am Sonntag and ServiceValue); Winner 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, gold rank 2015
  • In the Focus study “Germany's best jobs with a future” (July 2017), Alex was one of the test winners.
  • For its "sustainable commitment" (assuming social, economic and ecological responsibility), the Alex chain landed in a consumer survey (Deutschland-Test, ServiceValue, Focus ) in the leisure catering segment in 5th place (February 2017) and 1st place (March 2018).
  • Alex received the rating “recommended by customers: high recommendation” (independent study by Focus , Deutschlandtest and ServiceValue) in September 2017 and the rating “highest customer loyalty” in February 2018.
