Alexander Jenkins
Alexander Jenkins (* 1802 ; † 1864 ) was an American politician . Between 1834 and 1836 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois .
Career
The life dates of Alexander Jenkins are only incomplete. He lived in Jackson County , Illinois and politically joined the Democratic Party . He must have studied law and later served as a district judge in Cairo until 1864, the year he died . In the meantime he also took part in some Indian wars.
In 1834, Jenkins was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois at the side of Joseph Duncan . He held this office between December 5, 1834 and his resignation on December 9, 1836. He was Deputy Governor . His resignation, the reasons for which have not been passed down, took place exactly halfway through his actual term of office. Then Jenkins was president of the Illinois Central Railroad . After his resignation as lieutenant governor, the President of the State Senate , William H. Davidson , was constitutionally appointed as his acting successor.
Between 1837 and 1838 Jenkins was a member of the state board of the Democrats in Illinois; in 1847 he took part as a delegate to a constitutional convention of his state. He died in 1864 and was buried in Carbondale .
