John Moore (politician, 1793)

John Moore (born  September 8, 1793 in Lincolnshire , England , † September 23, 1863 ) was an English -American politician . Between 1842 and 1846 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois .

Career

After the early death of his parents, John Moore grew up as an orphan. At the age of 21 he emigrated to the United States, where he lived briefly in Virginia and then in Hamilton County , Ohio . From 1830 he was based in McLean County , Illinois, where he worked as a waggon in a wheelwright . A year later he became a justice of the peace in his new home. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1836 he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives for two years . Two years later he became a member of the State Senate for two years . In 1842 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois at the side of Thomas Ford . He held this office between December 8, 1842 and December 9, 1846. He was Deputy Governor . He then took part in the Mexican-American War as a lieutenant colonel of the volunteers .

Between 1846 and 1863 he was a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Democrats. From 1858 to 1860 and between 1862 and 1863 he was the state chairman of his party. Between 1848 and 1857 he held the office of State Treasurer of Illinois. He died on September 23, 1863.
