Neil Hartigan

Neil F. Hartigan (born May 4, 1938 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American lawyer and politician . Between 1973 and 1977 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois.

Career

Neil Hartigan attended Loyola Academy and then studied at Georgetown University in Washington, DC After completing a law degree at Loyola University , which he graduated in 1962, he worked in various legal positions for the city of Chicago over the next ten years. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1972 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois at the side of Daniel Walker . He held this office between January 8, 1973 and January 10, 1977. He was Deputy Governor . In 1976 he was not confirmed.

After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, Hartigan initially worked as a private businessman in the private sector. He returned to politics in the early 1980s. In August 1980 he took part as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in New York , on which President Jimmy Carter was nominated for re-election, which was unsuccessful. Between 1983 and 1991 he was Attorney General for his state. In 1990, Neil Hartigan ran for governor of Illinois, but was defeated by Republican Jim Edgar . He then was chairman of the World Trade Center Illinois . Between 2002 and 2008 he was an appellate judge at the Illinois Appellate Court .
