Alexandra Cadanțu (born May 3, 1990 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian tennis player .

biography

Alexandra Cadanțu started playing tennis at the age of three, encouraged by her father, who pursued the sport as a hobby. She prefers to play on sand; So far she has won all of her individual titles on this surface.

When she was 15, she played her first tournaments on the ITF Women's Circuit . After only moderate success, the then 18-year-old considered retiring from professional tennis in 2008. She applied for a scholarship in the USA . With the victory at a tournament in Bucharest, however, she was able to win new sponsors for herself.

Career

In 2006, Cadanțu achieved her first success on the professional tour when she defeated her compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu at a small ITF tournament in Bucharest .

The Romanian's ascent began in autumn 2010 when she reached the finals of several ITF tournaments and won a total of five titles over the course of the year.

2011 turned out to be a successful year for Cadanțu. She reached another five finals at ITF tournaments and won the highest endowed one in Biella, Italy, with a 6: 4, 6: 3 final victory over the Colombian Mariana Duque Mariño . In October she was able to qualify for a main field at the tournament in Luxembourg for the first time on the WTA Tour . In the first round she defeated Nastassja Jakimawa from Belarus 6: 1 and 6: 4, before she had to admit defeat to Lucie Hradecká 3: 6, 4: 6.

In the following week it was 100 for the first time in the top world ranking out. She reached her personal best in January 2014 with position 59.
