Noël Alexandre Mendy ([ nɔ.ɛl a.lɛk.sɑ̃dʁ mændi ], born December 14, 1983 in Paris ) is a French soccer player of Senegalese origin who is used as a right-footed flank player, particularly on the wing positions in midfield and attack , but also as a full -back can be.

After the Frenchman had started his career with various clubs in the Île-de-France , he moved to the Czech Republic in 2003 at the age of 19 , where he then played for various teams for eight years. After winning the Czech Cup in 2011, Mendy moved first to England and in 2012 to Germany , where he was signed by clubs in the third division.

Career

Youth in the Île-de-France

Born in Paris in 1984, Mendy learned to play football in the Yvelines department just outside the city by joining FC La Verrière at the age of eight and the OSC Élancourt two years later. Another five years later, in 1999, Mendy then moved to the youth team of FC Versailles , where he was also taken over in the men's team from 2001. As a result, Mendy came within the following two years in 34 games of the regional amateur league Division d'Honneur (Paris Île-de-France) for Versailles.

Beginning in Příbram and Most

In 2003 Ivan Hašek , at that time coach at the French Club Racing Strasbourg , brokered Mendy to the Czech first division club Marila Příbram , who signed Mendy. First under coach Jozef Chovanec , then under his successor František Kopač , Mendy then completed 19 goalless missions for Příbram in the 2003/04 season , which the team finished with eleventh place in the table.

In his second year in Příbram , Mendy was one of the top performers of his team during the 2004/05 season, both under Kopač and under Pavel Tobiáš , who was used as a coach in December 2004 . He contributed with a total of four goals scored in 25 games to reach ninth place in the final table. In the first half of the 2005/06 season , Mendy then completed another 13 games for the Central Bohemian club, but only one of them over the full season. During the winter break, Mendy therefore moved within the Gambrinus league to FK SIAD Most, which was only promoted to this league in summer 2005 . For the club from the north Bohemian Most Mendy then played in 14 games in the second half of 2005/06 under coach Zdeněk Ščasný against relegation to the Druhá League . With three goals scored, he contributed to the fact that the promoted team placed tenth in the final table even better than his previous club from Příbram.

For the 2006/07 season , Most signed Mendy's younger brother Vincent , who had also moved to the Czech Republic in 2005, so that both played together in a professional league for the first time. While his brother initially only played one role in the league, Alexandre Mendy played 22 games for Most this season, in which he also scored five goals. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season , Mendy ran four times for Most in the league before moving to the Czech UEFA Cup participant FK Mladá Boleslav in late August 2007 .

Mendy in Mladá Boleslav

Under coach Luděk Zajíc Mendy played on September 2, 2007 his first league game for the club from Mladá Boleslav . The team, which had finished third in the previous season, had a weak start to the season, so that Zajic was replaced by Ščasný, who was also coming from Most to Mladá Boleslav. Under this Mendy then played for the first time in an international competition, the 2007/08 UEFA Cup , in which he scored two goals in five games. However, the team was eliminated in the group stage. In the league, meanwhile, the team occupied places in the lower half of the table, which is why Ščasný resigned after the 21st matchday from the coaching office and was replaced by Karel Stanner . Under this Mladá Boleslav finally reached seventh place in the final table, which Mendy also had a share with his 23 games this season.

In the following season 2008/09 the now acting as coach Pavel Hapal Mladá Boleslav led back into the top group of the Gambrinus League, but threatened to miss the qualification for the international competitions at the end of the season. Then Dušan Uhrin junior took over the coaching office, but ultimately only finished sixth in the final table with the team. The change of coach had negative effects, especially for Mendy, who had been a top performer on his team under Hapal and had made 24 appearances on the starting line-up, because under Uhrin he was only substituted on three times.

In the 2009/10 season Mendy got his regular place back, so that he participated in 29 of the 30 season games, but the renewed slipping into midfield of the table during this season had again led to a change of coach. 2010/11 Mendy then played again under Karel Stanner in all 30 league games, but with fifth place in the final table, qualification for the international competitions over the league was again missed. However , the qualification succeeded in the Czech Cup competition , which Mladá Boleslav won this season by defeating Sigma Olomouc on penalties . Mendy had also played in the final game and converted his penalty in the penalty shoot-out.

Via Chesterfield to Rostock

In July 2011, Mendy sought a move to England, where he initially participated anonymously in friendly matches at the second division Leeds United . Although Leeds showed interest in signing Mendys in early August 2011, it finally did not come to this, as the club wanted to use its funds for players in urgently needed positions. Mendy then completed a trial training at third division Chesterfield FC , as a result of which he received a one-year contract.

For Chesterfield, Mendy then played in 34 games of the 2011/12 season in Football League One, also completed an assignment in the FA Cup and also played with Chesterfield for the Football League Trophy , which was won in the final against Swindon Town . At the end of the season, however, Chesterfield was relegated to the fourth division, whereupon the club Mendy made no new contract offer.

On June 10, 2012, Hansa Rostock signed Mendy, who received a two-year contract. From coach Wolfgang Wolf he was then used at the beginning of the third division season 2012/13 in the right midfield until after the eighth day of the game Marc Fascher became coach. Under this, Mendy was subsequently used as a right full-back, which ultimately contributed to 35 of the 38 season games and thereby ousted Rick Geenen from the team. Instead of direct promotion , the Rostockers, who had been relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga in the previous season, played against the threatened relegation to the fourth division, which was only averted on the penultimate match day.

From Rostock to Saarbrücken

After the end of his contract in Rostock, Mendy moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken . After the 2018/19 season, Mendy left 1. FC Saarbrücken.
