Alfred Erich Wilhelm Burgemeister (born July 22, 1906 in Perleberg , † April 23, 1970 in Munich ) was a German officer , most recently a colonel in the reserve of the Bundeswehr , retail salesman and politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1970 . In 1960/61 he was deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Life

Origin and teaching

Burgemeister was born in 1906 in Perleberg in Westprignitz , the son of an innkeeper who also ran a farm and a travel company . After attending primary school in his hometown, he completed a commercial apprenticeship in 1921 at the general management of Perleberger Versicherungs-AG. During this time he became a member of the Young Steel Helmet of the Steel Helmet, Bund der Frontsoldaten . In 1923 he became a volunteer in the local mill.

Military background

In 1924 he joined the 9th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment of the Reichswehr in Wünsdorf as a temporary volunteer for about six months . In the same year he left the company and switched to his father's company. In 1926 he was a re-employee with the Reichswehr in Spandau. From 1928 he attended the Army College for Administration and Economics . In 1929/30 he went through NCO training , was promoted to sergeant and the offer to attend an officer selection course.

In 1934 he was promoted to first lieutenant . He first led a machine gun platoon and was then transferred to the 12th Infantry Regiment . In 1938/39 he went to the War Academy in Berlin . In World War II he was u. a. Ordonnanzoffizier , Third General Staff Officer (Ic) and Second General Staff Officer (Ib). In 1942 he became the commander of the Grenadier Regiment 524, which was deployed on the Eastern Front and in the Balkans. In 1945 the colonel became a British prisoner of war .

After the war he was involved in the emergency community of former professional soldiers . The personnel appraisal committee of the Bundeswehr classified him as suitable, but Burgemeister was deferred until the federal election and decided in 1961 to go into politics. The reserve officer performed a military exercise and held the rank of colonel in the army reserve .

Commercial profession

In 1945 Burgemeister was initially a farm worker before he took over the management of the refugee camp in Helmstedt until 1946 . He later headed the refugee camp in Marienthal. From 1946 to 1958 he worked as a retail salesman (general store) in Schöningen . He was also a member of the retail advisory board of the Braunschweig Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK).

Burgemeister joined the CDU . From 1962 to 1970 he was chairman of the Helmstedt District Association and from 1968 to 1970 of the Braunschweig Regional Association . He was also a member of the board of the CDU Lower Saxony .

In 1948 he was elected to the city council of Schöningen and in 1952 to the district council of Helmstedt.

Federal politics

As a direct candidate he was 1953 to 1965 (with 36.9 percent (2nd WP), 46.2 percent ( 3rd WP ) and 44.5 percent ( 4th WP )) for constituency 51 (Braunschweig / Land-Helmstedt) and 1965 bis 1969 (49.7 percent) for the constituency 46 (Helmstedt-Wolfsburg) and 1969 /70 via the third place in the national list Lower Saxony Member of the German Bundestag .

Initially secretary, he was from 1957 to 1963 chairman of the discussion group for medium-sized companies (today: parliamentary group for medium-sized companies) of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . In 1960/61 he was deputy parliamentary group leader under Heinrich Krone (CDU). From 1963 to 1969 he was chairman of the working group economy and nutrition of the parliamentary group.

He was a full member of the Committee on Civil Service Law (1953–1957), the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forestry (1956/57), the Committee on All-German and Berlin Issues (1953–1957), the Defense Committee (1969/70), the Committee on Health Care (1957–1960) and the Committee on Small Business Issues (1957–1965). He was also a deputy member of the Committee on Internal Administration and Home Affairs (1955–1965), the Committee on Post and Telecommunications (1955–1957), the Committee on Special Issues for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (1956/57) and the Committee on Health Care (1960/61), the Defense Committee (1953–1961, 1970), the Committee on War Victims and Homecoming Issues (1961–1965) and the Committee on Economics and Small Business Issues and Economics (1965-1970).
