Friedrich Wilhelm Alfred von Bothmer (born June 26, 1815 in Kassel , † August 23, 1892 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Alfred was a son of the Prussian major Joseph von Bothmer (1778-1820) and his wife Charlotte, née von Heydwolff (1778-1866). His brother Eduard also became a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Bothmer visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 7, 1832, he was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a porter chief. By mid-November 1833, he was promoted to redundant secondary lieutenant and in mid-August 1835 was placed over the budget. From January 1841 to September 1848 Bothmer was adjutant of the 1st battalion and rose to prime lieutenant in early August 1848 . On March 26, 1849 he was commanded as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 27th Landwehr Regiment in Halle (Saale) and took part in the battle at Kuppenheim when the Baden Revolution was suppressed . After this command was terminated in mid-May 1851, he was appointed company commander a year later and promoted to captain . On June 14, 1859, Bothmer was aggregated as a major in the 26th Infantry Regiment and on January 14, 1860 as commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 31st Landwehr Regiment to Mühlhausen / Thuringia . This was followed by his command as battalion leader in the 31st Combined Infantry Regiment on May 8, 1860, from which the 3rd Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 71 emerged in early July 1860 . Bothmer was given command of the II Battalion and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 25, 1864 . In this capacity he led his battalion during the war against Austria in 1866 at Podol , Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . For the further duration of the mobile relationship he was commissioned on July 5, 1866 with the command of the 6th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 49 . Bothmer was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV. Class with Swords for his work , after the peace treaty was appointed regimental commander on September 17, 1866, and in this position promoted to colonel three days later .

During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , he received command of the 17th Infantry Brigade on July 18, 1870 and initially took part in the Battle of Weissenburg until he was seriously wounded by a shot in the abdomen near Wörth . After his recovery he led his large association in the siege of Paris and the skirmishes at Valenton, Bicetre, Malmaison and Garches. Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , he was promoted to major general on January 18, 1871 , and one day later he was involved in the fighting on Mont Valerien . After the Peace of Frankfurt on June 3, 1871 he was appointed brigade commander. At his request, Bothmer was put up for disposal on August 7, 1874, conferring the character of Lieutenant General with a pension . After his departure , the emperor awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on a ring. He died on August 23, 1892 in Darmstadt.

Bothmer married Elisabeth Käsemacher (1821–1844) on October 25, 1842 in Magdeburg . The marriage remained childless. After her death, he married Pauline von Gerhardt (1834-1891) in Magdeburg on December 1, 1855. The couple had several children:
