Eduard von Bothmer

Friedrich Walter Gustav Eduard von Bothmer (born May 23, 1811 in Geseke , † April 26, 1889 in Schwagstorf ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Eduard was the son of the Prussian major Joseph Anton von Bothmer (1778-1820) and his wife Karoline Marie, née von Heydwolff (1778-1866). His brother Alfred (1815-1892) also became a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Bothmer visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . On 29 July 1829, he was as Portepeefähnrich the 36th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army transferred and promoted to mid-April 1830 second lieutenant . He graduated from the General War School in 1836/39 and was promoted to captain and company commander by the end of October 1848 . With his promotion to major , Bothmer became commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 32nd Landwehr Regiment in Torgau on August 11, 1857 . He was then commanded as a battalion leader in the 32nd Combined Infantry Regiment that was formed from it and at the beginning of July 1860 was appointed battalion commander in the newly formed 4th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 72 . In this position Bothmer rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-October 1861 and was transferred to Wittenberg on June 25, 1864 with promotion to colonel as commander of the 4th Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 67 . Bothmer led his association in 1866 against Austria in the battles near Münchengrätz , Königgrätz and Blumenau .

In position à la suite of his regiments, he was commissioned on February 8, 1868 with the leadership of the 3rd Infantry Brigade in Danzig and appointed Bothmer with the promotion to major general commander of this large unit . In September 1869, King Wilhelm I awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves. With the beginning of the war against France , Bothmer was appointed commander of Danzig for the duration of the mobile relationship in 1870/71 and, after the conclusion of peace on June 3, 1871, was transferred to the army officers while remaining in this position. Bothmer received on July 20, 1871 the star of the Crown II. Class with swords and was on 18 October 1871 awarding of the character as a Lieutenant General with the statutory board for disposition made.

family

Bothmer had married Bertha von Heydwolff (1829-1907) on April 6, 1858 in Oberweimar . She was the daughter of the Hessian captain Friedrich von Heydwolff. The couple had two children:

  • Marie Charlotte Henritte Auguste Pauline Josephine (* July 1, 1859) ⚭ 1905 Baron Carl Caspar von Droste zu Hülshoff (* March 21, 1843 - July 22, 1922), retired lieutenant. D.
  • Walter Alfred Ernst August Heinrich Ludwig (born September 6, 1865) ⚭ 1890 Freiin Karola Franziska Marie Luise Huberta Droste zu Hülshoff (born April 9, 1865)
