history
From the 6th to the 11th century there was a millstone quarry in the local area of Altenhof , which was extensively examined archaeologically in 1995.
Just like the neighboring Plank am Kamp , Margrave Leopold III. of Austria , the saint, Altenhof 1113 the Melk Abbey . The small street village, located on the big loop of the Kamp, takes its name from an "old farm", of which nothing can be seen today. The Melk Abbey, owner of Plank since 1113, also held Altenhof in 1400 and gave the place to the Stockhorns as a fief. Heinrich and Georg Stockhorner had their main festivals in Stockern (near Maria Dreieichen) around this time. Later the Melk Abbey handed over its Altenhof property to the Buchberg rulership, with whom it remained until the end of the feudal period.
With the commissioning of the Kamptalbahn , Altenhof developed into a small summer retreat with a few summer retreat villas. After 1945 the place could no longer follow the tradition of the summer resort. Changed travel habits, but also the construction of the Kamptal reservoirs, which led to a sharp drop in temperature in the Kamp, which is lined with numerous bathing establishments, deprived tourism in the Kamptal of its most important foundations. Since the municipal amalgamation in 1972, Altenhof has been a cadastral municipality of the large municipality of Schönberg am Kamp .
