At the end of summer is a German television film from the spring film series by Michael Karen , which was first broadcast on ZDF on May 13, 2018 .

The film tells the story of the village helper Katja Baumann, played by Simone Thomalla , who supports families in emergency situations and at the same time tries to bring spring into people's hearts. It is the 18th film in a series that focuses on the people of the village called Spring .

action

Judith Kleinke, whose family village helper Katja Baumann helped out a few weeks ago, is back from the rehabilitation clinic . Almost nothing is left of her depression. On the contrary, full of zest for action, she makes her way to an interview to finally find her way back into her old life. Meanwhile, Katja is asked by Tom Kleinke to accompany the youngest daughter to the vet because her new guinea pig is ailing. On the way there she passes an accident and is horrified to find that the Kleinke family has been hit again by fate, because Judith Kleinke has just had a fatal accident. At a loss as to how she can make this understandable to her daughters Marie and Nora, she seeks the help of Pastor Sonnleitner, also for herself. The coming days are not easy for everyone. Katja not only has to help them, but also Adrian, the son of their new landlord, who is in love with Nora Kleinke. Everyone suspects a suicide because of her mother's depression, but Katja doubts. She suspects that something might be wrong with the house, because not only the guinea pig, Nora is increasingly ailing, and the flowers in the house are not thriving. According to Katja's research, the previous owner's dog was also sick and almost died. Now there are tons of dead ladybugs on the windowsill. She contacts the previous owner of the house and learns that they had similar problems and therefore wanted to get rid of the "cursed" house. Katja gets in touch with a pollutant expert. He suspects PCB- containing substances that were used as wood preservatives years ago and only degrade very slowly. This is not only supported by the symptoms observed by Katja, but also by the massive symptoms of poisoning by Judith Kleinke, who was treated incorrectly because she did not suffer from depression, but from poisoning that ultimately led to the tragic accident. After the Kleinke family no longer wants to live in the old farmhouse, they temporarily move into a camper van so as not to expose themselves to any further stress. At some point they want to build a new, unencumbered house on the property.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found that there was “too much sadness in this episode. In such a genre, pain portrayed 1: 1 is at best an invitation to compassion (you step on the spot with the characters), but the story does not help the suffering. ”Furthermore, Tittelbach thinks that one should“ be the heroine as in 'At the end of summer often reach their limits. It doesn't have to be a complete misjudgment of the situation, no behavior that artificially dramatizes the plot, but behavior that makes the heroine appear a little less confident. There have been approaches to this in private stories for years - only professionally Katja Baumann has been the infallible village helper so far. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave this episode a "thumbs straight". They judged: “Coping with grief and research into the causes are the focus of this episode. The family drama is loosened up a little by the discovery of spicy photos and a ladybug invasion in the cellar. "
