Good fathers, bad fathers is a German television film from the spring film series by Thomas Jauch , which was first broadcast on ZDF on April 29, 2018 .

The film tells the story of the village helper Katja Baumann, played by Simone Thomalla , who supports families in emergency situations and at the same time tries to bring spring into people's hearts. It is the 16th film in a series that focuses on the people of the village called Spring .

action

Mark Weber decided to sell his house at short notice because he wants to stay with his sick father in Leipzig for an indefinite period. Village helper Katja Baumann, as his subtenant, has to deal with the new owner. This is of all people Jan Steinmann, an old school friend of hers, with whom she now has to share and arrange the living area. Steinmann and his young son Adrian settled down in spring and want to fulfill his old dream of country life here. While her new roommates are moving in, Katja receives a call from Pastor Sonnleitner. A couple probably got caught in a storm while climbing and still haven't returned. The two worried underage children would now be without supervision and Katja should take care of them. So she goes out late in the evening and tries to calm Paula and Nicky down. After the mountain rescue service found the vacationers the next day, Katja's task seemed to be done. But she continues to worry about the family, because obviously everyone is suffering from the extreme activism of the family father. Katja gradually finds out that Peter Söringer is only concerned with everything he does to prove to his father what a “tough guy” he is and doesn't notice how he is “ruining” himself and his family. In order to break this vicious circle, Katja contacted Söringer's father. He agrees to come to spring , where father and son finally talk to each other through Katja's mediation.

Katja thinks about the problems of the Söringers and she has to admit that she too never came to terms with her past with her father. She had never forgiven him for leaving her and her alcoholic mother. When Katja finally goes to the old people's home where her father has been supposed to live for years, she is unfortunately too late. He had died two days earlier.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “In 'Gute Fathers, Bad Fathers' the focus is on an extreme climber (Simon Böer) who is still suffering from his father (Michael Mendl). Not only does he endanger himself and his wife through his violence, the whole family with two children suffers from his obsession. As filmically airy as 'More than Friends', this conflict is less comprehensible in its psychological nuances - and so it suddenly dissolves under the pressure of an extreme situation. The private level works better than the schematic dramaturgy in this episode: the heroine remembers her father once more, whom she never met. She now knows where he lives and she wants to visit him. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave this episode a "thumbs straight". They judged: "A kaleidoscope of wisdom and emotional learning and healing processes follows as usual." Conclusion: "Reconciliation drama the gentle way."
