When Cranes Fly is a German television film in the spring film series by Michael Karen , which was first broadcast on ZDF on May 6, 2018 .

The film tells the story of the village helper Katja Baumann, played by Simone Thomalla , who supports families in emergency situations and at the same time tries to bring spring into people's hearts. It is the 17th film in a series that focuses on the people of the village called Spring .

action

Village helper Katja Baumann helps out with farmer Schneidinger, who has broken his arm and cannot do all the necessary work on his farm himself. So this time Katja has to go to the sunflower field. Here she becomes aware of a child who has just collapsed at the edge of the forest and is complaining of severe pain. Katja immediately takes the girl to the hospital, where she is diagnosed with poisoning. She can also find the parents of little Lea Krug, who are a dropout family. The father had picked mushrooms and now unintentionally poisoned his child and his wife. Katja also has Lea's mother brought to the hospital, although she refuses massively. When Gregor Krug comes home and hears what has happened, he brings his family back home immediately because he doesn't want to know anything about hospitals and doctors and they don't have health insurance. He pursues a different life model and wants to take care of his family himself with the help of natural forces. During the short time in the hospital, Lea meets a girl with leukemia who she wants to help. They firmly believe that if they fold 1000 paper cranes they would be healthy again. That is why Lea tirelessly tinkers with the paper cranes at home. She would love to play with other children, but her father teaches her himself, which regularly causes problems with the authorities. He takes a little trust in Katja and she stands by him when the youth welfare office is again at his door. In this way, she learns that the Krugs have lost their first child - allegedly because they themselves had failed conventional medicine. Katja succeeds in convincing the Krugs that they are not allowed to use Lea to treat their personal problems caused by the death of their first daughter. Touched by the fate of the family, Katja writes a letter to Mark and says that she should never give up believing in miracles, just like the children who in the end actually got 1000 cranes together and let them "fly" out of the hospital window.

Subplots

After Mark Weber sold his house to Jan Steinmann, the latter consistently implemented his new life plan. He chose to move to the country because he wanted to create a new environment for his son Adrian, who had disciplinary problems at his school. He has to come to terms with Katja until she has found her own apartment. Adrian meets Nora Kleinke at school, with whom he befriends. Because of her he fights with Freddie, because he realizes that he wants to supply her with drugs.

Philippa has big problems taking over Mark's veterinary work because the people don't know her enough in spring . With the help of Pastor Sonnleitner, however, she finds a job.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “Issues such as children with leukemia, child welfare & hospital germs are touched upon, and it's about 'letting go' again, but quietly and without pointing fingers, but not without a calendar saying ('You must never stop working on miracles believe'). The episode thrives on Stephan Grossmann's and Julia Jäger's strong presence; It is gratifying that their negligent characters are neither disavowed nor completely proselytized. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave this episode a "thumbs straight". They judged: “As so often in the series, individual stubbornness is worked off and reason is preached. You can sign everything, but it's not very exciting .. "Conclusion:" Posture grade 1, creative: goes like this ... "
