Spring Children is a German television film from the spring television series by Michael Karen from 2013. It was first broadcast on ZDF on February 3, 2013 .

This third film in the film series continues the story of the village helper Katja Baumann, played by Simone Thomalla , who supports families in a village called “Spring” in emergency situations for the aid organization “Hand in Hand”.

action

At the gas station in the small Bavarian village of “Frühling”, a turkey roaming free caused a sensation because it was not afraid of people and attacked one of the fuel customers. The village youth is amused as well as the village helper Katja Baumann, who happens to be there. The animal belongs to the Böhm family, who are currently in the stress of preparation for their youngest daughter's communion and have therefore not noticed that their rebellious turkey has escaped Karl. When Luise Böhm, who is a single parent, had an accident on the way back home to her children, Katja had to step in and look after the children and the farm until Mrs. Böhm could be released from the hospital.

When Katja arrives at the Böhm children, she meets the village pastor Hendrik Klein, who has already made himself useful. He explains to Katja that Luise Böhm is a very active woman in the community and that they would like to return the favor. Katja gets to know the children. Tommy is 16 and very responsible for his age. Vivi, the eldest daughter, takes most of the mother's absence with her, while her nine-year-old sister Romy is very happy about her “mum on order”. It is not difficult for Katja to get used to it, as the children work well.

During her work with the Böhms, the village helper discovered that Luise Böhm had had a secret relationship with Hendrik Klein for years, something that nobody in the village should know. Katja decides to speak to him about it. In order not to compromise him, however, she chooses the route via the confessional . Klein openly admits that he is the father of the three children , but that he feels bound by his vows as a priest. Katja persuades the clergyman that, despite the importance of his work for others, he should not forget the gratitude that he was given three healthy children.

Despite all the efforts of the doctors, Luise Böhm dies. The news hits the children just as they happily celebrate a passed exam by Romy. It is immediately clear to Katja what that means for the children if Hendrik Klein does not acknowledge his fatherhood. The children would then be placed under the guardianship of the youth welfare office, which also means that they would have to leave their familiar surroundings and the farm. Klein is torn between his calling and his affection for his children. He doesn't want to let his church down because that's the only way to redeem his responsibility towards his three children. So it happens that the children are to be picked up by the youth welfare office. When Klein wants to say goodbye to them, it is Katja who speaks again insistently to his conscience. Then he thinks about it and takes his children with him.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv comes to the conclusion: “For the third time Simone Thomalla [...] is on the way to combine emotionality with social engagement. [...] 'Spring Children' takes their time - and lets them into the protagonists' rhythm of life. The mood of the story and the landscapes create an emotionally coherent flow. It's a film that is pleasantly touching. Pilcher films claim emotions; this ZDF Sunday film produces them. "

Teresa Groß from teleschau - der mediendienst writes as a critic at Stimme.de: “In the country, the viewer might think after the opening sequences, people are not only more beautiful but also better, more committed, friendlier. One of the movie's strengths is that that initial impression crumbles as the plot progresses. [...] Superficially, it is the show values that convince about 'Spring Children', because the story hardly has any unexpected twists and turns. Nevertheless, the Sunday film just scratches the blue-and-white checkered paintwork of village life so much that the plot gains substance, but the idyll remains. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm judge: “The third social fairy tale from the fictional Bavarian village of Frühling is as conservative as it is appropriate for this broadcasting slot, but it is able to avoid nasty slip-ups. The action point is provided by a neurotic turkey named Karl, who fell in love with a gas pump at the local gas station. ”Conclusion:“ Friendly, light and not just shallow. ”
