Tan Sum District ( Thai อำเภอ ตาล สุม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the province of Ubon Ratchathani . The province of Ubon Ratchathani is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

geography

Neighboring counties (clockwise from the east): the Amphoe Si Mueang Mai , Phibun Mangsahan , Sawang Wirawong , Don Mot Daeng and Trakan Phuet Phon in Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Important water resources in the district are the Mae Nam Mun (Mun River) and Lam Se Bok ( ลำ เซ บก ) rivers .

etymology

The area of ​​today's Tan Sum was previously called Tan Chum ( ตาล ชุม ), which means “fertile land with many palmyra palms” ( Borassus flabellifer ) . The name was later changed to Tan Sum.

history

Tan Sum County was set up on September 18, 1978, initially as a “branch circle” ( King Amphoe ) by separating the three tambon Tan Sum, Samrong and Chik Thoeng from Phibun Mangsahan Amphoe . On January 1, 1988, Tan Sum got full amphoe status.
