Amphoe Pho Sai ( Thai : อำเภอ โพธิ์ ไทร ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the northeast of the Ubon Ratchathani Province . The province of Ubon Ratchathani is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

etymology

  • Pho ( โพธิ์ ): "Bodhi tree" ( poplar fig , Ficus religiosa )
  • Sai ( ไทร ): Weeping fig (Ficus benjamina)

These two species of trees can be found at Wat Si Bunrueang ( วัด ศรีบุญเรือง ).

geography

Neighboring counties (clockwise from the southeast): the Amphoe Si Mueang Mai , Trakan Phuet Phon , Kut Khaopun , Khemarat and Na Tan . In the northeast on the other bank of the Mekong lies the Laotian province of Salavan .

history

The "Branch Circle" ( King Amphoe ) Pho Sai was formed on May 5, 1981 from the three Tambon Pho Sai, Muang Yai and Samrong, which were separated from Khemarat County. On August 12, 1987, it got its full amphoe status.
