Amphoe Don Mot Daeng ( Thai : อำเภอ ดอน มดแดง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Ubon Ratchathani . The province of Ubon Ratchathani is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

etymology

The name Don Mot Daeng ("dry land of the red ants") comes from the island of the same name in the Mae Nam Mun (Mun River) .

geography

Neighboring counties (clockwise from east): the Amphoe Tan Sum , Sawang Wirawong , Mueang Ubon Ratchathani , Lao Suea Kok and Trakan Phuet Phon of Ubon Ratchathani Province.

The main water resources of the district are the Mae Nam Mun and the Lam Se Bok ( ลำ เซ บก ).

history

The district was initially set up on April 1, 1991 as a "branch district" ( King Amphoe ) by separating the area from the Mueang Ubon Ratchathani district . On December 5, 1996, Don Mot Daeng received full Amphoe status.
