Grünberg office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The office of Grünberg was an office of the Landgraviate and most recently of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

function

In the Middle Ages and early modern times , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereign rulership . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers.

history

The Grünberg office was established in the catchment area of Grünberg Castle in the second half of the 13th century. The oldest mention of a Grünberg bailiff comes from 1269. In the 14th century the office was pledged several times: Before 1350, because in that year Landgrave Heinrich II paid back the pledge to Johann von Eisenbach. And in 1383 Gottfried von Schweinsberg and Wilhelm Schlitz confirmed to Landgrave Hermann II that he had paid them 1,000 guilders to redeem the pledge. In 1385 the Landgrave pledged Amt Grünberg to the knights Rorich and Johann von Eisenbach and their relatives. It must have been triggered again shortly afterwards, because in 1389 Dietrich Schutzbar was appointed as the Hessian bailiff for Grünberg. Since then the office has been Hessian without interruption.

During the division of the country after the death of Landgrave Philip I, the Magnanimous , in 1567 the office of Grünberg fell to the newly formed Landgraviate of Hessen-Marburg and, after this branch line died out in 1604 and the Hessian Wars in 1648, with the Peace of Westphalia, finally to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt , which then became the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806.

In 1821/22 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy. With it, justice and administration were also separated at the lower level. District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction. The Grünberg office was dissolved. Its administrative tasks were transferred to the district of Grünberg , the jurisdiction to the district court of Grünberg .

Components

The office was subdivided into the district court Grünberg and the court Ober-Ohmen. At the end of the Old Kingdom , the following municipalities belonged to the Grünberg office :

Law
