Andreas Petermann (theologian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andreas Petermann (* around 1535 in Dresden ; † 1611 there ) was Kreuzkantor in Dresden from 1561 to 1583 .

Life

Petermann studied theology in Wittenberg from 1554 to 1557 . In 1557 he took up a position as cantor in Altendresden , but after a short time switched to the Kreuzschule as a baccalaureus . In 1561 he succeeded Andreas Lando in the office of Kreuzkantor.

After lengthy arguments with the city council of Dresden about his payment, which did not lead to a satisfactory result for him, he probably moved to the royal court orchestra in 1584 as preceptor of the chapel boys . Here he was also the teacher of Johann Hermann Schein . Petermann retired in 1611 and died that same year.
