According to the effective climate classification , the climate in Annapolis can be described as the east side climate : hot, humid summers, cool winters and year-round precipitation occur. In Chesapeake Bay , the spring and summer temperatures are a little more moderate than inland.

The effects of climate change have been reviewed by Hino et al. (2019) for Annapolis investigated: Due to the overheating of the earth's climate system, the number of tidal flood events in Annapolis increases over time. In 2017 alone, Annapolis recorded 63 such events. The estimated economic damage for 16 surrounding shops is 0.7–1.4% of annual income. According to the study, the income from the passage of seawater over the coastal fortifications and the resulting lack of customers decreased by 86,000 to 172,000 US dollars for a total income of 12.2 million US dollars in 2017.

history

As early as 1649, British settlers from Virginia founded a port between the mouth of the Severn and the South River , which they named Anne Arundel's Towne . In 1694, the Governor Francis Nicholson moved the seat of government of the young Province of Maryland colony from Saint Mary's City to this place and renamed it Annapolis in honor of Queen Anne .

After the American Revolutionary War ended , the port city served as the capital of the United States for nine months . Here George Washington signed his letter of resignation as commander of the Continental Army on December 23, 1783 after winning the Revolutionary War , and the Continental Congress ratified the Second Treaty of Paris on January 14, 1784 , which ended the War of Independence.

Four of the signatories to the United States Declaration of Independence were from Maryland's tobacco port.
