The Anton-Renk-Hütte is a non-managed refuge (self -catering hut ) of the Aachen section of the German Alpine Club . It is located at 2261  m above sea level in the Ötztal Alps . With 18 mattress dormitories, it is a base for the inspection of the Aachener Höhenweg .

Location and surroundings

Anton-Renk-Hut and Falling Bach

The Anton-Renk-Hütte is located in the Glockturmkamm , a mountain range of the Ötztal Alps, in the Austrian Tyrolean Oberland , between Kaunertal in the east and the Oberinntal in the west in the municipality of Ried im Oberinntal . Neighboring mountains in the northeast are the Feichtner Karlsspitze with 2916  m height, in the east the Alte Mann ( 2888  m ), in the south the Kuppkarlesspitze with 2991  m and in the southwest the Zirmesspitze ( 2944  m ). The hut can be reached from the northwestern Ried through the valley of the Stalanzer Bach and the Stalanzalpe , and from Fendels to the north via the Fendler Alpe . There is a waterfall near the hut that reaches a height of around 170 meters. Some folk tales about the "Falling Bach Putz", a ghost, refer to him.

base

The hut is a base on the Aachener Höhenweg , which leads over the Riefenkarscharte , the Fissladtal , the Kreuzjoch and the Nasserein Alm to the Gepatschhaus in the Kaunertal. The hut is only accessible with a so-called "AV key", which can be obtained from the hut warden. In winter it can only be reached when there is safe snow (via Stalanz). The steeply sloping gullies from the Feichtner Karlsspitze harbor the greatest danger of avalanches . In winter, however, the “Fallende Bach” waterfall is a popular destination for ice climbers . There has been a via ferrata on the Falling Bach since 2006 .

history

The hut owes its name to the writer and folklorist Anton Renk (1871–1906), who was also an enthusiastic mountaineer and who made the first ascent of the Old Man and the Rauhen Kopf (Kuppkarlesspitze), in the immediate vicinity of today's hut.

The hut was built in 1926 by the Austrian Mountain Association . In 1939 it was bought by the Aachen Section. After the Second World War , like all other German AV huts, it was confiscated and returned to its owners in 1956.
