Area Committee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many of the local administrative units in England , Scotland and Wales have, if their area extends over a large area or has a high population, divided it into smaller units in which Area Committees are responsible for the organization of certain areas of responsibility in their area. They also have an advisory role for administrative decisions as far as this affects their area. Its members are partly elected and partly delegated from the higher-level committees.

England

In the areas of the counties , an Area Committee is usually responsible for the area of the individual districts . In the unitary authorities , which represent only one district at the same time, the allocation is usually based on the boundaries of city districts, referred to as ward, or on constituency boundaries.

Examples:

    • Birmingham - 11 Area Committees for the 11 constituencies.
    • Bradford -5 Area Committees, each for the wards who (at least roughly) form a common constituency for the general election.
    • Leicester - 9 Area Committees for 2 to 3 wards each. The downtown area does not belong to any area.
    • Kirklees - 7 Area Committees
    • Kingston upon Hull - 7 Area Committees
    • Oxford - 6 Area Committees
