Wake up! was a podcast produced by Tilo Jung and Stefan Schulz between April 2015 and July 2020 . In the weekly episodes, the moderators discuss current political developments on the basis of television reports, in particular the news magazines of public service broadcasters .

In addition to Jung and Schulz, Alexander Theiler ( Jung & Naiv ), Rena Schwarting ( Bielefeld University ), Hans Jessen (formerly Radio Bremen / ARD capital studio ) and Max Ost ( lawn radio ) can be heard in numerous episodes . Repeated interview guests in the podcast included Robert Habeck ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ), Marco Bülow ( SPD ), Georg Restle ( monitor ) and Markus Preiß ( ARD -Studio Brussels). Other prominent guests were Glenn Greenwald , Claus Kleber , Julian Reichelt , Jeremy Scahill and Philipp Walulis .

The wake up! -Podcast is funded by donations from its listeners. According to the company, the episodes reached an average of 30,000 to 35,000 downloads in April 2017. The episodes also appear as a video on Jung's YouTube channel. The 250th episode was released on November 14, 2017, and episode 300 on June 14, 2018.

The coverage of the US presidential election campaign in 2016 , which the podcast accompanied intensively, was repeatedly positively highlighted . The wake up! -Podcast was recommended as a political podcast by the German online edition of Wired and the media magazine @mediasres of Deutschlandfunk in the run-up to the 2017 federal election . In her review of the broadband broadcast by Deutschlandfunk Kultur , Meike Laaff described the tone of the podcast as “cynical” and attested the moderators “contempt for politics and the media” and self-importance.

Jung and Schulz wake up at irregular intervals ! -Podcast as part of a public event. The 200th edition was recorded in May 2017 with guest Sigmund Gottlieb in front of an audience in Berlin, in September 2017 they commented on the TV duel between Angela Merkel and Martin Schulz together with Constanze Kurz and Georg Restle . The 300th episode, in which Friedrich Küppersbusch and Hubert Seipel were guests, was recorded in front of an audience in June 2018. In January 2019, the 351st episode was recorded with Ulrike Guérot and Albrecht von Lucke . A! 401 took place on September 20, 2019 in Dresden as a preliminary program for the “data tracks” conference of the Chaos Computer Club .

With episode A! 440 of June 23, 2020 it was announced that the podcast with episode A! 444 will end on July 21, 2020.
