August Georg Karl Philipp von Owstien (born June 21, 1771 in Stettin , † March 15, 1847 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and commandant of the Graudenz fortress .

Life

His parents were the general of the infantry Carl Philipp von Owstin (1736-1811) and his first wife Dorothea Elisabeth, née Ulrich (born January 8, 1745, † February 1, 1775).

Military career

Owstien came on November 1, 1784 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von der Goltz" of the Prussian army and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of December 1789 . In 1790 his father Carl Philipp von Owstin became head of this regiment. On December 21, 1793 he was transferred as an inspection adjutant to his father, who was also in command of the Pomeranian inspection during this time. On October 15, 1798, Owstien returned to his regiment as first lieutenant . On September 26, 1802, he was promoted to staff captain, before joining his father on September 26, 1805 as adjutant general. In the Fourth Coalition War that followed , he fought in the battles near Criewitz, Waren and near Lübeck . With the surrender of the " Blücher " corps , he went into captivity and was made inactive.

After the Treaty of Tilsit on 11 October 1810 Captain transported by the army, Owstien took on 4 February 1812 his farewell to board and was moved back to the estate of his wife.

With the start of the Wars of Liberation , he came on May 6, 1813 as a company commander in the 2nd Pomeranian Reserve Battalion and shortly afterwards on July 1, 1813 in the 9th Reserve Infantry Regiment . Owstien fought in the sieges of Stettin and Wittenberg as well as the battles near Großgörschen , Dennewitz , Leipzig and Laon . At Dennewitz he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class and Owstien was awarded the Cross 1st class for the storming of Arnhem . He also took part in the sieges of Philippeville, Givet and Montmedy. During that time he was promoted to major on February 4, 1814 and appointed battalion commander on May 25, 1815.

After the war, Owstien rose to lieutenant colonel on March 13, 1817, and was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1818. He was already ill and received notification on August 15, 1822 that he was scheduled for the next commandant post in a fortress. First Owstien was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1824 with a patent from April 3, 1834 . On June 18, 1825, he was transferred to the Graudenz fortress as commandant . There Owstien took his leave on March 12, 1834 with the character of major general and the statutory pension. He died in Breslau on March 15, 1847.

Owstien married Juliane Johanna von Hertell on July 4, 1800 in Daugzin (August 2, 1782, † October 23, 1870). The couple had several children:
