August Friedrich von Tschudi (born June 4, 1815 in Mengeringhausen ; † February 12, 1878 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

August was a son of the Waldeck Major Rudolf von Tschudi (1773-1854) and his wife Friederike, née Voigt (1779-1837).

Military career

In his youth Tschudi received private lessons in a guesthouse near Gosfelden near Marburg. He then attended high school in Marburg and, after graduating on June 4, 1832, joined the 15th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as an avantageur . By mid-October 1834 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and from October 1840 completed the general war school for three years for further training . On June 27, 1843, he was assigned to the Guards Artillery Brigade for one year and this command was extended by six months at the end of August 1844. In 1847 he was assigned to the 7th Combined Reserve Battalion, and on August 12, 1848 as an adjutant to the 13th Infantry Brigade . Tschudi rose to prime lieutenant in mid-September 1848 and became adjutant of the 26th Infantry Brigade on May 4, 1852 . After his promotion to captain on July 9, 1853, he was appointed director of the United Divisional School and President of the Examination Commission for Ensigns in the VII Army Corps . On January 5, 1856, he came as an adjutant to the General Command of the VII Army Corps. Upon release from this command, Tschudi was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment on January 18, 1859 with a patent from June 22, 1852 as a company commander . On June 14, 1859, he became the surplus major and at the end of the month was entrusted with the leadership of the 2nd battalion in the 30th Landwehr Regiment in Saarlouis . In mid-August 1859 he was appointed director of the war school in Erfurt under position à la suite . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 25, 1864, and was transferred to the 3rd Thuringian Infantry Regiment 71 on August 14, 1865 as battalion commander.

During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Tschudi was in 1870/71 in command of Glogau . He then returned to his peacetime position and was put up for disposition on September 17, 1872, in approval of his resignation letter , conferring the character of major general with a pension . He died in Wiesbaden on February 12, 1878.

Tschudi married Dorothea Weltner (1826–1880) on April 24, 1850 in Wiesbaden. The couple had several children:
