August Ferdinand von Wolff (born May 17, 1788 in Berlin , † March 6, 1851 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

The family was in Prussia since October 20, 1786 ennobled . August was a son of the Privy Councilor and Lord on Haselberg Paul von Wolff (1744-1805) and his wife Marie Katharina, née Schmitz (1759-1840). His brother Karl Wilhelm (1785–1873) became a Prussian lieutenant general .

Military career

Wolff attended the Brandenburg Knight Academy and in 1803 joined the cuirassier regiment "von Schleinitz" of the Prussian army as an Estandartenjunker . By mid-October 1805 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant , took part in the Battle of Jena during the Fourth Coalition War and was made inactive after the defeat.

At the end of October 1812 initially employed as a district officer in the gendarmerie , Wolff was aggregated into the Brandenburg Cuirassier Regiment in mid-December 1812 . On March 18, 1813, he rose to prime lieutenant . During the Wars of Liberation Wolff fought near Großgörschen , was wounded near Bautzen and took part in the battles near Dresden and Kulm . Wolff received a commendation for Leipzig and the Iron Cross 2nd class for Laon . He also fought at Paris , the blockade at Thionville, and the skirmishes at Haynau, Reims and Lizy, where he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class. On April 11, 1814, he was promoted to staff assistant master. In 1815 he acquired the Iron Cross First Class at Waterloo and was transferred to the 2nd Silesian Hussar Regiment on March 29, 1815 . Wolff advanced to Rittmeister and squadron chief on June 8, 1815 .

On March 30, 1830, he was aggregated major and the 7th Hussar Regiment ; on March 30, 1834 he was assigned. On March 30, 1838 that it commissioned him with the leadership of this association and appointed him on 24 January 1839 regimental commander. In this position he rose to Colonel April 7, 1842 , before Wolff was aggregated to commander of the 15th Cavalry Brigade on March 22, 1845 and the 7th Hussar Regiment on July 12, 1845. Wolff married Karoline von Roeder (1790-1857), a daughter of Major General Heinrich von Roeder, in Grottkau on February 18, 1822 . She was buried on January 20, 1857 in the city cemetery. The marriage remained childless.
