The district of Bärenstein is located in the northwestern center of Plauen and borders on four other districts.

The western border of the district is formed by the Plauen – Cheb railway with the Syratalbrücke , the eastern border is the federal road 92 with the Friedensbrücke . In the north is the Plauen city park and in the northeast is the eponymous, almost 430 meter high mountain "Bärenstein" on which there is also a tower, the "Bärenstein tower". The brewery grounds of the Sternquell Brewery are located in the southeast of the district . In the east, next to many listed buildings on Hainstrasse, the Plauen Park Railway runs .
