history
Foundation of the place until today
Barkhausen was founded in 1784 by Jürgen Christian Findorff as part of the moor colonization . The settlement initially only took place directly on the Oste-Hamme Canal and then extended further north and south-east. Known as the “king wood”, attempts were first made in 1816 to plant conifers in the bog , which ultimately failed. After the deforestation, the "Forstortanfang" settlement, which today belongs to Glinstedt , was built in the same location .
Today the names Unter-Barkhausen exist for the settlement on the canal, Mittel-Barkhausen and Ober-Barkhausen on the Barkhausen Canal.
