Basil Mitrofanowicz

Basil Mitrofanowicz (born April 1, 1831 in Budenitz , Bukowina , † August 21, 1888 in Marienbad , Bohemia ) was a Ruthenian theologian of the Greek Orthodox Church . He worked as a university teacher in Chernivtsi.

Life

Mitrofanowicz attended the kk I. Staatsgymnasium Chernivtsi . After graduating from high school in 1850 and studying theology, he taught at the theological college in the capital of Bukovina.

When the kk Franz Joseph University was founded, Mitrofanowicz was appointed full professor for practical theology in 1875 and was elected dean of the Greek Orthodox faculty. From 1871 until his death in 1888 he held the chair for moral theology . In 1877/78 he was the third rector of the university. She awarded him an honorary doctorate on June 6, 1879 .

He was a member of the Reichsrat (Austria) .

Mitrofanowicz's writings are kept in the Göttingen State and University Library.
