BeMobility (Berlin elektro Mobil) is an interdisciplinary research project for the integration of electric and hybrid vehicles in public transport in the model region Berlin / Potsdam. BeMobility is one of the few projects worldwide that are testing inner-city electromobility as a link between alternative drive and collective use. Concepts of this kind are central to a traffic turnaround .

Project name

The project name is based on the name of the social marketing campaign Be Berlin . The long version "Berlin elektro Mobil" has been added as a subtitle for better understanding .

Funding framework

The project takes place within the framework of the model region electromobility Berlin-Potsdam . It is supported, among other things, with funds from the economic stimulus package II of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS). The project is coordinated by the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW).

Project content and goals

The aim of the project is to test electric vehicles as part of the public transport system. Electric car sharing cars from Deutsche Bahn ( e-Flinkster ) and pedelecs ( e-Call a Bike ) are used. By 2011, a total of 40 electric cars and 50 pedelecs will be in use. In addition, hybrid electric cars of the Toyota Prius type are also being used in the Prius plug-in variant , which has not yet been freely available for sale . Since the price and technology of electric road vehicles have so far hardly been able to compete with conventional private vehicles, the aim is to gain initial experience with the charging infrastructure , the rental system and user behavior in the public transport network . The integration into public transport should be facilitated by information and booking aids. Test users have the opportunity to test drive the electric cars in Deutsche Bahn's car sharing service. The test users can register online. 500 users will be asked about their attitudes and driving impressions by 2011. From June to September 2011, a new offer - the Berlin elektroMobil mobility card - was tested, with which local public transport , Flinkster car sharing and Call-a-Bike -Stadtrad could be used together.

TU Berlin campus

The spectrum of project partners ranges from the energy companies RWE , Solon and Vattenfall to the intermediaries and suppliers Bosch , Contipark, HaCon and VBB to the transport companies of Deutsche Bahn . The accompanying social science and technological research is carried out by the Innovation Center for Mobility and Social Change (InnoZ) under the direction of Andreas Knie and the DAI laboratory at the TU Berlin .

It is noteworthy that RWE and Vattenfall are two companies that are in direct competition with each other .

Results and further development

By the preliminary end of the project, 39 electric vehicles had been offered at 17 car sharing stations, which had been rented around 2,850 times and covered almost 200,000 kilometers. A continuation as BeMobility 2.0 began in December 2011. A new focus of the project is the inclusion of electric cars in a small-scale, intelligent power grid , the Micro Smart Grid , at the Gasometer Schöneberg. In the context of the energy transition, the project aims to investigate the use of electric vehicles as storage for renewable energy . On October 12, 2012, the electric folding car Hiriko Citycar was presented, which is being prepared for car sharing as part of the project. The mobility card BahnCard 25 mobil plus is also a result of BeMobility.

Location

The so-called electro-mobility platform in the retort house at Gasometer Schöneberg has been in operation since summer 2010 . On November 12, 2010, the Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China , Wan Gang , paid a visit to the test platform in the presence of State Secretary Rainer Bomba . In October 2011 Shōichirō Toyoda , founder of the Toyota company, paid a visit.

On March 16, 2012, the Micro Smart Grid was inaugurated on the EUREF Campus at Gasometer Schöneberg .
