Beatae Mariae Virginis

The Evangelical-Lutheran , listed church Beatae Mariae Virginis stands outside the village on a ridge of Kleinurleben , a district of the community Urleben in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia . The parish Urleben belongs to the parish area Großvargula in the parish of Mulhouse the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . The church also serves as a place of worship for the big tourists, as there is no church in this part of the village.

The hall church was built according to an inscription in 1586. Another inscription with the year 1801 indicates a renewal. The interior was not renovated until 1970. The church tower in the west has a medieval , groin-vaulted ground floor . He is covered with a French hood . In the tower hang three bells , cast in 1352, 1460 and 1504. The two-storey extension in the north consists of a stone roofed staircase, the sacristy and a patron's box . The nave, which is covered with a gable roof, is covered in the interior with a coffered ceiling. The choir is closed on three sides . The galleries stand on palm-shaped pillars , their balustrades have balusters . On the fields of the parapet of the patronage box are scenes from the New Testament , created around 1700, in between a portrait of Heinrich Moritz von Berlepsch , the Landkomtur of the Ballei Thuringia, made by Anton Graff, marked 1804 . At the end of the choir is an ornamental glass window from the 19th century. The supports of the pulpit altar are two female figures, they carry a host and a chalice . In the church there are replicas of the oil paintings stolen in 1992 and from around 1580, the portraits of Erich Volcmar von Berlepsch and his wife Lucretia, as well as of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Younger . The real pictures have been in Schloss Friedenstein since they were found again . A life-size baroque crucifix is part of the church furnishings . The door of the sacristy was painted around 1700 and shows Christ as a gardener . In the choir there are epitaphs from the von Berlepsch family from the 16th to 18th centuries. Century. The high pedestal of a monument from the Renaissance is the virtues Justitia , Fortitudo , Fides and Spes supported. A relief depicts the resurrection of Jesus Christ , which is framed by 16 coats of arms and the kneeling couple. Another relief shows the birth of Jesus . In the staggered excerpt the evangelists can be seen and furthermore reliefs of the parable of the prodigal son and of Jesus and the adulteress , in between the virtues of moderation , patientia and prudence , above a representation about Pentecost , crowned by charity . There is also an epitaph for Eric Volkmar von Berlepsch and his wife in the church, as well as an obelisk with a figure and mourners in front of it, as well as several tombstones with coats of arms and vanitas symbols . The organ with 9 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1926 by Carl Hickmann & Sohn.
