geography

The living space is in the Niederwesterwald about three kilometers west of the main town of Asbach. Bennauermühle is located in the Pfaffenbachtal west of the Bennauer Kopf and the Asbach district of Bennau .

history

The Bennauer mill was first mentioned in 1554 and was owned by the Junker Wilhelm von Etzbach . In 1634 it was operated as an oil mill .

In an auction from 1847, the Bennauer Mühle is described as follows: “Consisting of an oil mill with two running stones and rollers, then a barley, bone and starch mill”. It was noted that all the "buildings" are still new and that the mill has a plot of three Prussian acres , consisting of a courtyard, garden and meadows. In a census in 1885, seven people lived in the mill. The mill operation was stopped around 1900, in 1932 the mill burned down.

Until March 16, 1974, the residential area belonged to the previously independent municipality of Elsaff , which was dissolved on the same date and whose locations were assigned to the newly formed local communities Asbach and Buchholz according to their former parish affiliation . Here the hamlet of Bennauermühle came to Asbach.
