Altenhofen is part of the local community Asbach in the Neuwied district in northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The place is predominantly agricultural.

geography

The village is located in the Niederwesterwald east of the main town Asbach on a hill above the Mehrbachtal . To the east of Altenhofen is the local community of Kescheid in the Altenkirchen district . Altenhofen is connected to the Asbach districts of Niedermühlen and Schöneberg in the south and the districts of Krumscheid , Sessenhausen and Limbach in the north via Kreisstraße 64 .

history

The place belonged to the electorate of Cologne until 1803 . The place was part of the " Honnschaft Schöneberg", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne office of Altenwied . According to an inventory ordered by Cologne Elector and Archbishop Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, Altenhofen had five courtyards. In 1787 12 houses with 34 inhabitants were counted.

After the Rhineland came to Prussia in 1815 , Altenhofen belonged to the community of Schöneberg in the then newly formed Neuwied district and was initially administered by the Neustadt mayor and from 1823 by the Asbach mayor . According to a census from 1885, Altenhofen had 95 inhabitants who lived in 18 houses. 1931 was Altenhofen own mailroom Class II in the district of the post office Asbach, by the country post office of the post office from 1966 Linz was supplied.

Until March 16, 1974, Altenhofen belonged to the previously independent community of Schöneberg , which was dissolved on the same date and whose localities were assigned to the newly formed local community Asbach on the same date. In 1987 Altenhofen had 147 inhabitants.
