history

Kalscheid probably belonged to the Lords of Ütgenbach as early as the 12th century . The first written mention of the place name in the form of "Kaliche" took place in 1324, when a Werner von Kaliche sold a meadow to the Templar coming in Hönningen .

In 1413 the "Kalscheider Tenth " belonged to the Lords of Ehrenstein .

Kalscheid belonged to the Electorate of Cologne until 1803 . The place was part of the " Honnschaft Schöneberg", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Cologne Electoral Office of Altenwied , which was established in the middle of the 13th century . According to an inventory ordered by the Cologne elector Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, Kalscheid had five farms. Each of the farms had its own justice due to different ownership structures .

After the Rhineland became part of Prussia in 1815 , Kalscheid belonged to the Schöneberg community in the then newly formed Neuwied district and was initially administered by the Neustadt mayor and from 1823 by the Asbach mayor . According to a census from 1885, Kalscheid had 40 inhabitants who lived in 15 houses.

Until 1974 Kalscheid belonged to the previously independent community of Schöneberg . On March 16, 1974, the local community Asbach was newly formed from it and the communities of Asbach and Limbach, which were dissolved at the same time, and part of the community of Elsaff . In 1987 Kalscheid had 43 residents.
