Meierseifen is a district of the local community Asbach in the district of Neuwied in northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The place is predominantly agricultural.
geography
The hamlet is located in the Niederwesterwald west of the main town Asbach on a hill above and west of the Pfaffenbach . To the north of the village is the Asbach district of Germscheid . Meierseifen is connected to Germscheid and Köttingen via the district roads 148 and 42 .
history
“ Soaps ” in the place name indicates a Franconian settlement and describes a place where water pours out of the ground everywhere. The part of the name "Meier" suggests that a Meier had his seat here in the 13th century as a subordinate of the Saynischen Vogts von Germscheid .
From the 14th century to 1803, Meierseifen belonged to the Electorate of Cologne . The place was part of the " Honnschaft Elsaff", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne office of Altenwied . In an inventory ordered by Cologne Elector Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, Meierseifen had two courtyards. In 1787 there were four courtyards here.
After the Rhineland became part of Prussia in 1815 , Meierseifen belonged to the municipality of Elsaff in the then newly formed Neuwied district and was administered by the Mayor's office of Asbach . According to a census from 1885, Meierseifen had 16 inhabitants who lived in 3 houses.
Until March 16, 1974 Meierseifen belonged to the previously independent municipality of Elsaff , which was dissolved on the same date and whose localities were assigned to the newly formed local communities Asbach and Buchholz according to the former parish affiliation . Here Meierseifen came to Asbach and has been part of the Elsaff-Asbach district since then .
